Abuja, Nov. 15, 2025 (NAN) — Fred Otobo has clinched the overall best net prize at the 70th birthday golf kitty held in honour of Engr. Andrew Yakubu at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club (TYB-IGRCC), Abuja.
Playing off a handicap of 24, Otobo returned an impressive gross score of 88 and a net score of 64 to emerge overall winner of the keenly contested event.
Engr. Yakubu, a distinguished Nigerian and former Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), marked his 70th birthday over the weekend in Abuja with a special golf kitty in honour of the celebrant as well as an award night and dinner.
The golf tournament, which teed off early on Saturday, Nov. 15, attracted more than 200 golfers — professionals, amateurs, women, and veterans — all competing across various categories.
Brig. Gen. Nicholas Ashinze, the TYB Golf Club Captain praised the celebrant, saying:
“Engr. Yakubu is more than a friend of this club — he is part of its history. His support, humility, and passion for the game inspire every golfer who walks through our gates. Celebrating his 70th with this tournament is our way of honouring a man whose generosity and commitment have helped shape TYB-IGRCC into the vibrant community it is today. We wish him strength, joy, and many more memorable swings on our fairways.”
Dr. Ali Peters, Vice Captain of the club, added:
“He loves golf and has supported this club over the years. I’ve known him for quite a long while, and he has always shown respect, dedication, and integrity. He truly represents what a distinguished gentleman stands for. I wish him more time on the fairway, good life, more wins and accolades.”
Resident Professional, Mr. Musa Usman, also praised the celebrant’s composure and popularity among golfers:
“He is cool-headed and very unique. Since he chose to mark his 70th with us, professionals within Abuja came together to honour him.”
Mrs. Sarah Yakubu reflected on her husband’s journey with warmth:
“Today marks my husband’s 70th birthday. He’s truly a remarkable man. My prayer is that he soars like the eagle and achieves all he desires with God on his side.”(NAN)
