Abuja, Nov. 12, 2024 (NAN) In a heartfelt tribute, Baze University Abuja has recognised the invaluable contributions of late Air Vice Marshall Mukhtar Muhammad (Rtd), former Wazirin Dutse, with a posthumous honorary degree.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the very sad death of AVM Mukhtar Muhammad (rtd), a former military governor of old Kaduna State, was announced on October 1, 2017.
He died at a London hospital after a brief illness at the age of 73. Born on November 11, 1944 in Dutse, Jigawa State, AVM Mohammad attended his primary school in Dutse, started secondary school in Birnin Kudu and later went to Barewa College, Zaria from where he joined the Nigeria Air Force.
He rose to the rank of Air Vice Marshall before he retired from the service.
AVM Mukhtar Muhammad who was the Wazirin Dutse in Dutse Emirate of Jigawa State, was a deputy chairman, Board of Trustees of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), a delegate to the National Conference in 2014.
He replaced Group Captain Usman Jibrin as military governor of old Kaduna State in 1977 and was a member of the Supreme Military Council in 1984-85 during the Buhari Military Administration.
He was also the no-nonsense chairman of the Enugu Zone of the Special Military Tribunal that sentenced many politicians to long prison terms.
NAN reports that the honorary posthumous award indeed distinguishes and acknowledges his unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s progress and development.
The 11th convocation ceremony, attended by prominent figures including Sarkin Dutse and Peter Obi, celebrated AVM Mukhtar Muhammad’s legacy as a champion of national growth.
As a respected leader, AVM Mukhtar Muhammad served as Chairman of Freedom Radio’s Directors’ Board and Governor of old Kaduna State during the military regime
