The Igboeze South Local Government Council administration has lamented that the menace of insecurity and banditry has hampered infrastructural development in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the chairman the Secretary, Mr Chukwuemeka Ezugwu stated this when the Enugu State Good Governance Initiative tram visited the council headquarter at Ibagwa Aka.
The team comprising the representatives of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC)Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Coalition of Civil Society in the Enuhu State was in the council as part of its biennial inspection of projects embarked by local government administration in the state.
Recounting the state of affairs in the council in recent times, the secretary said that the administration has had.hectic period curtailing the menace of criminals who held the local government spell bound for months.
“We have been battling all forms of insecurity in the local government. Some criminals from another local government and unleashed terror in our local government.
“we spent much on maintaining security and with the help of the state government, our area is becoming calm, ” he said.
He said, however, that inspite of the challenges of insecurity the administration led by Mr Vitus Okechi has performed well in terms of infrastructural development.
According to him, the administration is constructing a model office complex which is currently ongoing.
“After the completion of this office every office will relocate here including the vice chairman’s office, ” he said.
He also said that as part of effort to cater for the health needs if the people, the chairman council decided to equip the step 3 hospital sited in the Ibagwa aka without waiting for the state.
The team rightly observed that hospital was the functional step 3, hospital among others in the state.
