The abductors of Seven members of the Ezimo Community in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State last Friday have demanded N20 million ransom to effect their release.
A family source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that, the kidnappers suspected to be bandits have contacted the family demanding the sum of N20.
“They have called us to demand N20 million, ” the source said.
As at the time of writing this report, neither the state government nor the State Police Command have yet to make any official statement on the matter.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Udenu LGA, Hon. Aka Eze-Aka had sympathised with the family of the victims while promising continued commitment to the protection of lives and property of the people of the communities.
In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Jude Eze, the chairman promised to re-jig the security architecture of the local government.
The letter reads in part: “In the past 72 hours, Udenu Local Government Area has witnessed disturbing security breaches, with incidents of kidnappings reported around Ezimo, Umuosogide and some parts of Amalla.
“These cowardly attacks have understandably thrown our people into fear and uncertainty.
“The Chairman of our Local Government Council, Aka Eze Aka, had continued to show commitment, holding a series of strategic security engagements, with relevant stakeholders, aimed at tightening the security architecture across our communities.
“As a result of this coordinated engagement,the criminals have been severely restricted in movement, forcing them into a position of vulnerability.
“Security operatives have swung into actions combing targeted locations with intelligence-driven precision to ensure the safe rescue of our brothers and sisters in captivity.
“While ongoing consultations may lead to immediate restructuring of security units in the area, the Chairman assures Ndi Udenu that every necessary measure is being deployed to crush the criminal elements and restore absolute normalcy.
“The Chairman sympathizes deeply with affected families on these unfortunate developments, and calls on residents to promptly report any suspicious activity. He thanks those already providing credible intelligence and urges the public to remain calm, vigilant, and continue going about their normal businesses. “
