As the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, officially lifts ban on campaigns activities in the country ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Director General, Peter Mbah and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Campaign Organisation, Chief Ikeje Asogwa has said the assignment before the party, supporters and various interest groups is to mobilize voters for all the candidates vying for different elective offices in the state by ensuring that they emerge victorious.
The DG who disclosed this recently at the party’s campaign office in Enugu at an interactive section he had with some executive members and coordinators of an influential support group rooting for the election of the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Peter Ndubuishi Mbah, his running mate, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, and other candidates seeking to be elected under the platform of the political party.
Asogwa who described the task ahead as a collective project which demands cooperation and teamwork from the party’s teeming supporters further charged the to move down to their various sphere of influence and keep mobilizing for the project.
According to him, nobody should rest until Mbah and other candidates are declared winners of the elections in February and March 2023.
While expressing confidence that Mbah would be sworn in as the next governor of the state on May 29, 2023 due to his popularity and the goodwill he enjoys in the state, Asogwa said their aim was to win all the polling units for their gubernatorial candidate.
He further urged the G-17 support group to continue to expand on their membership as the group would be judged by their value and electoral worth in the field.
“The assignment is for all of us. It’s a collective struggle for all groups and interests, and we must embark on the journey to achieving our goal. So, we should go to our various units and mobilize across the state.
“The assignment before us is very simple; it’s for us to deliver. There’s no story about that. And at the end of the day, we want you to show the state the stuff you are made of through your electoral strength,” the DG said.
Expressing his profound appreciation for the support he had been enjoying since his appointment as the DG, Asogwa assured the group that he would carry every interest along in the journey, saying the most important thing for them is for the party to land safely and be sworn in as the next government.
He said: “You people have been doing very well, and we thank you for your immense support and solidarity. Even your show of strength in the various local government areas. I don’t think there’s any other support group that has done this.
“I want to assure you that we have been piloting this affair, and this time we are going to pilot it to a state of safe delivery.”
Speaking earlier at the meeting, the DG G-17 support group, Hon. Emeka Ajogwu said they visited to re-echo their commitment and allegiance to the project, stressing that they would go any length to mobilize more support for the gubernatorial aspiration of Mbah.
Ajogwu who spoke for the support group further hailed the appointment of Asogwa as the campaign DG as a round peg in a round hole.
According to him: “We came to congratulate you on your well-deserved appointment as the Director General of Peter Mbah Campaign Organisation. When we heard about your appointment, we said to ourselves that whoever could have thought that out had made the best decision for this forthcoming elections because we know your capacity and what you can do.
“We saw your appointment as a round peg in a round hole. Your appointment is already upsetting the opposition parties. It’s sending jitters to them because of your experiences and resourcefulness in winning elections. We are confident that you are going to lead us to deliver. With your capacity, you’ll lead us to the Promise Land and we are going to deliver all our candidates.”
The G-17 who maintained that their support base had taken firm root across the 17 local government areas in the state, said they understood the scope of their job and were not afraid to go for the victory.
“G-17 is a well known support group, and as a patron of this group, you know a lot about us and what we can do. We have our presence from the state level down to the polling units level. We have over 12,000 support base members, and it’s our job to mobilize more to support our candidates in the coming elections, and we are assuring you of victory,” he added.
