The newly elected member representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Chidi Mark Obetta, on Sunday led his family, relations, friends, party members and his constituents at large on a Thanksgiving mass for his victorious emergence in the last general election.

FirstNews reports that the Thanksgiving mass which was held at the St John’s Catholic Parish Ibagwa-Ani, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, was attended by Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Enugu State, Sen Okey Ezea, Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Barr. Casmir Agbo, Enugu State Chairman, Labour Party, Hon. Denis Agbo, member representing Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, Hon. Stainless Chijioke Nwodo representing Igbo-Etiti/ Uzo Uwani Federal Constituency among others.

An elated Obetta could not hold his joy as he overwhelmingly thanked members of his constituents for their prayers and support to him which he said led to his victory in the last general election, assuring that he will stick to his campaign promises as well as attract democracy dividends to the area.

He said, “I thank the good people of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency for their love and support to me before and after the last general election.

“I want to reassure you all that I will not disappoint on my campaign promises, my doors will always be open to take your concerns.
“I also thank you all for joining me to show Almighty God my deep appreciation for not just giving us victory but guiding and protecting us throughout the campaign period,” he said.
Earlier in his homily, the Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr Uchenna Agu urged elected office holders in the country to always fulfill the promises they made to the electorate during their electoral campaigns to maintain the trust repossessed on them by the people that elected them to power.
He said that elected officials and other public office holders should fulfill their campaign promises so as to command the respect and confidence of the people that elected them into office.
“The promises you made to the electorates during your electioneering campaign is what made the people choose and voted you to power.
“You must fulfill these promises to maintain the trust, confidence, and respect the people have in you.
“As a leader and a public office holder you must have compassion and sympathy for the people, feel what they are feeling at all times, and have it in mind that the masses are waiting for good infrastructures and positive and favourable economic turnaround which you promised them during the campaign,” he said.
While describing Obetta as “a very good person who has empowered so many people as well as created job opportunities for many youths through his business empires.”, the Catholic Priest however urged the people to always support and pray for their leaders.
Fr. Agu condemned the nonchalant attitude always exhibited by some Nigerian leaders noting that the era for bad leadership was almost coming to an end.
Speaking with newsmen, a former aide to the Governor of Enugu State, Hon. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Jonathan, JP, Esq., said that he had no doubt in the capacity of Obetta to deliver dividends of democracy to his constituents adding, “if he can be generous with his personally gotten wealth, how much more now that he is representing his people,?”
FirstNews recall that Obetta won Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency seat in the last general election under the Labour Party and defeated his closest rival, Hon Chief Vita Abba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
