Abuja, Oct. 10, 2024 (NAN) Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd) and the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs Oghogho Musa have commended the organisers of the 2nd TYB Ladies Golf Open for sustaining the International championship.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the week-long championship which began on Tuesday at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, Abuja is expected to end on Sunday.
Buratai and other Golf enthusiasts who spoke to NAN on the sidelines of the ceremonial tee-off on Thursday, said the TYB Ladies Section and club management had scored a first in terms of the organisation of the tournament and the ambiance of the course.
Burutai who is the Life Patron of the club appreciated the TYB Ladies Section, the organisers of the tournament, for keeping their promise of sustaining the international championship.
He also commended the management of the club who he noted had continued to maintain a level of professional conduct and high standards over the years, in terms of the regular maintenance of the course, the club facilities and the organisation of quality tournaments.
“This club is already on the global golf map as you can see from the number of countries participating in this championship, and I believe it will begin to attract well known golfers from around the world in the near future,” he said.
“The location of the club at the heart of the city of Abuja itself is a tourist delight as you can see from the serene and peaceful environment.
“Alot of tourists attraction abound around here, ranging from the famous Aso Rock, where the seat of power is located to the millenium park, zoo, beautiful hotels, as well as other recreational, cultural and sporting facilities,” he said.
Buratai urged the club management to keep up the good work, stressing that they had done very well and have continued to transit seamlessly and peacefully from one good leadership to another.
The Life Patron also donated the sum of N 2 million as his contribution to the growth and development of the club.
Mrs Oghogho Musa, the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff and President of DEPOWA expressed her delight over the organisation of the tournament, adding that it was a very exciting and colourful event.
“This is actually my first time of holding a golf club and participating in a ceremonial tee-off and I am so impressed with what I have witnessed here today.
“The game of golf is indeed a unifier as one can attest to by the large number of people represented here from various backgrounds, language religion, culture and ethnicity.
“I am indeed looking forward to taking part in this exercise more often and enjoying the game of golf,” she said.
Ssgt. Maureen Apute, the Lady Captain of the club appreciated the Life Patron of the club, Buratai for his continued support and encouragement.
“We really feel privileged and honoured to have him (Buratai) in our presence as well as the wife of the CDS and other generals and guests here with us today.
“I also like to appreciate our club captain, Maj. Gen. Samson Jiya, who has been so supportive to the Ladies Section and has contributed immensely to the success of the tournament.
“We have over 400 golfers participating in this tournament, including ladies from the 36 states of the federation and FCT, as well as some few African countries, slugging it out for honours in the championship,” she said.(NAN)
