Abuja, April 6, 2025 – Police Volleyball Club (PVC) of Rwanda on Saturday recovered from their match day one set back to convincingly beat Club Omnisports Descartes (OMD) of Cote d’Ivoire in straight sets (25-19-, 25-11, 25-14) to cement their position as contenders in Pool D.
PVC took an early lead and dominated for the first set with some strong hitting for a 25-19 win.
OMD came back fighting in the second set as they showed good structured play and defence, but PVC eventually outplayed their Sengalese opponents to win the second set 25-11.
The Rwandans showed their versatility and blocking strength to keep the Ivorians from gaining any real traction in the third set.
They further stamped their authority in the game, as they found gaps in their opponent’s defence to win 25-14 at the end of a one-sided encounter.
Meanwhile, the two Nigerian clubs representing the country at the ongoing 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship, Nigeria Customs Service and Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers lost their second matches to their Egyptian and Tunisian counterparts respectively.
This was after they got off to a flying start on matchday one to securing convincing wins against Maya Kane Evolution of Cameroon and Spiking Stars of Botswana respectively.
Zamalek of Egypt maintained their unbeaten run in Pool B with a clean sweep over CNS Spikers, controlling the match throughout the game for a straight sets victory (25-14, 25-20, 25-16).
In Pool A, Carthage showcased their strength with a commanding performance against Nigeria Customs, taking the match in straight sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-13).
In other matches also played on Saturday, APR of Rwanda fell to Mayo Kani Evolution in a hard-fought four-set match, with the Cameroonian side coming from behind to seal a 3-1 victory (19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19).
In Pool B, Kenya Prisons secured their first win of the tournament with a dominant straight-set victory over Spikers and Spiking Stars, cruising to a 3-0 win (25-9, 25-15, 25-16).
In another match in Pool D, Kenya Pipeline continued their impressive form, overcoming Litto Team Volleyball in four sets.
After taking the first two sets, KPC briefly stumbled in the third but bounced back to win 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21).
