Abuja, Oct. 18, 2024 (NAN) The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has ianugurated a networking initiative aimed at fostering business connections through the sport of golf.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and President of the Chamber, Dr Emeka Obegolu, said this at a B2B meeting / cocktail organised by the ACCI on Friday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting brought together businessmen and women who engaged with the Golf community on the potential for collaboration and growth.
Obegolu reiterated the importance of work-life balance, particularly in light of rising health concerns and sudden deaths in the country.
He advocated for golf as a means to enhance social interactions among entrepreneurs, providing a relaxed environment to discuss business opportunities.
“We are here today to bring businessmen to meet with the Golf community.
“We appreciate that within the Golf community, there are very eminent businessmen who may not yet be members of the Chamber of Commerce.
“But the message we come with is the need to balance work-life primarily because of the rate of sudden deaths we are facing in the country today.
“We want to introduce golf as a game to the business community and also provide a platform for businessmen and women to meet, network, and exchange opportunities and contacts.”
According to Obegolu, the IBB Golf Course, being a premier destination, offers the perfect backdrop for networking and forging valuable connections.
The ACCI president reiterated the chamber’s commitment to promoting ease of doing business in Nigeria while urging the support of the business community.
Obegolu also urged the FCT administration to improve the infrastructure at the Idu Industrial District as a means of making Abuja a truly industrial city.
While speaking on the golf tournament scheduled to hold on Oct. 19, the ACCI president said more than 110 participants had registered, and more were still indicating interest to participate.
Also speaking, Dr James Agbonhese, the vice captain of IBB International Golf and Country Club, expressed delight at the ACCI initiative, saying it is good that golf and business are meeting together.
“Golf is about honour and integrity. You must be sincere in playing this game.
“And if you are doing business and you are sincere, you will be able to achieve your purpose without litigation, disagreement, and problems.
” I am very happy that the Chambers of Commerce are coming to have this tournament in this golf club. And I look forward to a bigger one next year and subsequent years to come.”
He said golf was chosen over other games because of its value, culture, and the rules and regulation of the game. (NAN)
