Abuja, Dec. 6, 2025 (NAN) The Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club (TYB-IGRCC), Abuja, buzzed on Saturday as golfers stormed the fairways for the end-of-tenure kitty celebrating Maj.-Gen. S.S. Jiya, its immediate past captain.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that with pride, precision, and bragging rights on the line, players teed off confidently, determined to post impressive scores and cap the season with memorable performances.
The course proved demanding, delivering moments of brilliance and frustration as changing conditions tested skill, patience, and tactical judgment throughout the keenly contested rounds.
As play progressed, tension mounted with tight scores, ensuring every swing counted and composure became as vital as consistency.
At the end, Engr. John Uche emerged champion. Playing off handicap 15, he returned a gross 74 and outstanding 59 net to clinch the end-of-tenure kitty title.
Following the final putt, members gathered at the clubhouse for celebrations, sharing laughter, reflections, and camaraderie in honour of the outgoing captain.
A sumptuous dinner and awards ceremony followed, with tributes praising Jiya’s impactful leadership and enduring contributions to the club’s growth.
Brig.-Gen. Nicholas Ashinze, the new club captain, described the event as symbolic and unifying.
“This end-of-tenure kitty reflects the strong bond among our members and the solid foundation laid by my predecessor. I assure everyone of continuity, discipline, and steady progress at the club.”
Maj.-Gen. Godwin Umelo, the LOC Chairman, praised the outgoing captain’s leadership.
“Maj.-Gen. Jiya assumed leadership at a very challenging period when membership surged due to the temporary closure of IBB Golf Club, yet he managed the situation with wisdom and balance.”
He also commended members’ support.
“The turnout and sportsmanship displayed today underline the unity, resilience, and rich traditions that define TYB-IGRCC.”
Ngozi Bose Onwuegbu, CEO of BON Sports and club member, hailed Jiya’s tenure.
“Maj.-Gen. Jiya led with humility, inclusiveness, and vision. His administration strengthened structures and made members feel valued and heard.”
Responding, Maj.-Gen. S.S. Jiya, the outgoing captain, expressed gratitude to the executive and members of the club for honouring him, encouraging unity, commitment, and mentorship to strengthen the club’s future.
“I am deeply honoured by this gesture. The support and cooperation I received from members made leadership seamless, and I urge everyone to remain united and committed to the club’s growth.
