Ilorin, Dec. 16, 2025 (NAN) The I-Tree International Group of Schools, Ilorin recently hosted a colourful Fruits and Vegetable day to promote healthy living among primary and secondary school students.
The event which held on Thursday, 11th, 2025, featured vibrant fruit and vegetable displays, practical sessions, presentations, and creative activities, drawing students, teachers, parents and guests in a lively, educative atmosphere.
Mrs. Evelyn Balogun, Executive Director of the school, said the initiative aimed to encourage regular consumption of fruits and vegetables for healthier lifestyles.
Balogun explained that the programme was added to the school calendar to round off first-term activities while reinforcing lessons on balanced diets and nutrition awareness.
She said students’ active participation and practical demonstrations showed growing understanding of healthy eating habits essential for lifelong wellbeing.
Balogun said the school was committed to nurturing not only academic excellence but also sound health consciousness among learners from an early age.
“We believe that education must be holistic. Teaching children the value of good nutrition is as important as classroom learning,” she said.
She noted that unhealthy eating habits among children had become a growing concern, making initiatives such as the Fruits and Vegetable Day timely and necessary.
“Many lifestyle-related illnesses can be prevented if children are guided early to embrace fruits, vegetables and balanced meals,” Balogun said.
The executive director explained that the interactive nature of the programme was designed to help students learn by doing and retaining healthy habits.
“When children see, touch, prepare and present these fruits and vegetables themselves, the lessons stay with them,” she said.
Balogun expressed satisfaction with the level of creativity displayed by the students during presentations and exhibitions.
“Their enthusiasm today shows that our message is sinking in, and that is very encouraging for us as educators,” she said.
She added that the school planned to sustain similar programmes in subsequent terms to further strengthen students’ awareness of nutrition and healthy living.
“This is not a one-off event. We intend to make healthy living a consistent culture within our school community,” Balogun said(NAN)
