Abuja, July 27, 2024 (NAN) Eddy Shock has emerged as the overall best gross winner of the just concluded Birdie Ancestors Golf Group (BAGG) 2nd AGM and Golf Kitty in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Shock emerged as the best gross champion after he returned a gross score of 81 at the end of tourney held on Saturday at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, Abuja.
P.O. Mukoro, who played off handicap 23 and returned a gross score of 91 and 68 net, won the best net prize.
He was closely followed by Joseph Ake, who played off handicap 18 and returned 87 gross and 69 net to finish as runner-up net.
Agbo Okoh settled for the second runner-up net prize after playing off handicap 17 and returning a gross score of 86 and 69 net.
In the BAGG Ladies category, Gloria Wallace took home the best net prize, while Grace Luka settled for the runner-up net prize.
In the Guest men’s category, Timothy Mike emerged as best gross in the category after returning a gross score of 70.
Y.M Sambo, who played off handicap 24 and returned 84 gross and 60 net, won the best net prize.
While, Nasiru Yahaya, who played off handicap 14, returning a gross score of 78 and 64 net, finished as runner-up net.
Amb. Ben Okoyen, playing off handicap 19, who returned a gross score of 87 and 68 net settled for the second runner-up net position.
In the Guest Ladies category, Farida Wada won the best gross prize in the category after returning a gross score of 87.
S.J Markus playing off handicap 15 with a gross score of 80 and 65 net finished as best net, while Olivia Ojeabulu playing off handicap 26 with a gross score of 94 and 68 net settled for the runner-up net position.
In the Veterans category, Martins Adaboh, who played off handicap 11 and returned a gross score of 82 and 71 net, won the best net prize.
Dr M.O. Marsh playing off handicap 18 with a gross score of 89 and 71 net finished as runner-up net.
There were other auxiliary prizes for the nearest to the pin (men) won by Julius Ogunromo, while Obioma. O won the nearest to the pin (ladies) prize.
Also, Timothy Mike smiled home with the longest drive men’s prize, while S.J Markus won the same prize in the ladies’ category.
Dr Joseph Enagela, the President of BAGG, noted that they were a premium lifestyle golf group in Abuja and Nigeria at large, with membership scattered across the 36 states of Federation and FCT.
Enagela explained that as part of activities to mark its second AGM and Golf Kitty, a new hole was launched by BAGG at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club.
“We are a lifestyle group who seek to use the game of golf to improve the lives, wellbeing, and social interaction of our members.
“Our membership which is made up of free, social and enterprising individuals spanning various golf clubs across the federation.
“So, we have launched a new hole at the TYBIGRCC, which is the hole nine. The hole was conceived and became interesting to us and we decided to launch it as part of activities to mark our event.
“This has become a signature hole for us that endears us to the club and as we all are as entrepreneurs and businessmen in BAGG, we seek to grow what is little and therefore this hole becomes one that is Internationally recognised for its various challenges, hazards and its lovely fairways,” he said.
Ali Peters, the Vice Captain of the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, Abuja, said it was an honour to host the tournament for a second time.
“We are happy to host the BAGG second Annual General Meeting (AGM) and golf kitty.
“On behalf of our life patron, Lt. Gen. T.Y. Buratai (Rtd.), our grand patron, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, our patron and captain Maj. Gen. S.S. Jia, we welcome and thank everyone who made the tournament a success.
“Most of the influential members of BAGG include those who have been a strong pillar of support to our club.
“The captain and indeed the Army is always happy to identify with ventures like these which aims to promote fellowship and camaraderie among the golfing community,” he said.
Staff Sgt. Maureen Apute, the Lady Captain of the Club commended commended the organisers of the tournament, adding that it was top-notch and well organised.
“The course was so organised and we had alot of fun.
“Kudos to the organisers for putting up a good show and we are eagerly looking forward to hosting the next edition,” she said.
Air Vice Marshall Emeka Iloh noted that the BAGG was made up of men of integrity and character who have achieved in all ramification of industries.
He explained that their objective is basically to come together in brotherhood and in oneness to enjoy the game of golf.
“You know that the game of golf is a game of fun and friendship.
“So, we are gathered here with other golfers who not necessarily members of the club or our association just to celebrate with us on our second AGM and the new inductees,” he said.(NAN)
