Owerri, April 12, 2022 (NAN) Uchenna Anoruo on Tuesday raced to an early lead in the frst round (leg14) of the Race to Nigeria masters (Pro/Am) tournament in Owerri.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total number of six players teed off under a 36°C weather condition as they struggled to subdue the luscious green of the Arsenal Golf Course.
Coming first place on the leaderboard with 2 over par (74) was Anoruo.
He started his round with a par in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 11th, 13th, 16th and 17th hole.
The 32 year-old played a bogey in the 15th and 18th hole , double bogey in the 4th and 10th hole and birdie in hole 8th, 9th, 12th and 14th hole.
He eventually finished the front nine with a par to make 35 and back nine with 39, finishing the round with 2 over par (74).
“I am very excited to lead in the first day of the tournament, but I hope to do more in subsequent rounds,” an elated Anoruo told NAN.
In second position with 1 score difference was Joseph
Moses who played 3 over par (75).
He played 5 bogeys, 2 birdies and 11 par.
“Although today’s game was a fair one, I’m happy to be at second place but tomorrow is another hopeful day, I’ll go hard on the course”, Moses said.
The rest of the players are hopeful that they play better in subsequent rounds and make it to the top of the board.
