Abuja, Feb. 3, 2026 (NAN) Organisers of the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon have announced an additional ₦11 million prize purse exclusively for Nigerian runners in the 42km race.
The incentive, covering male and female categories, reinforces efforts to reward local talent and strengthen grassroots and elite long-distance running in Nigeria.
Each gender category will share ₦5.5 million, distributed among the top 10 Nigerian finishers in the marathon.
Under the prize breakdown, first place earns ₦2 million, second ₦1.5 million, and third ₦1 million.
The fourth finisher receives ₦500,000, fifth ₦200,000, and sixth ₦100,000.
Athletes finishing seventh to tenth will each receive ₦50,000, widening reward coverage and encouraging deeper competition.
The ₦11 million allocation highlights the marathon’s commitment to developing homegrown athletes and creating pathways to compete with international elites.(NAN)
