Akure, Jan. 9, 2026 (NAN) The Ondo State Government has expressed grave concern over the sudden proliferation of political billboards, banners and posters across the state, especially in the Southern Senatorial District.
This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Yomi Oyekan, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Signage and Advertisement, Ondo State.
The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Signage and Advertisement said unregulated political visuals are spreading rapidly, creating environmental disorder and violating existing signage regulations.
While acknowledging political participation as a democratic right, the government stressed that no outdoor political advertisement is permitted without prior approval from the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OSSAA).
It said the erection or display of political billboards without notification, engagement and approval of OSSAA is illegal and punishable under extant laws of Ondo State.
The office emphasised that political status, party affiliation or influence does not grant immunity, waiver or exemption, noting that the law applies equally to all individuals and organisations.
The statement issued a final warning, directing all political actors and groups with unapproved materials to immediately regularise with OSSAA within a non-extendable 42-hour grace period, after which full enforcement operations would begin statewide without further notice.
The agency warned that enforcement would involve removal, confiscation and dismantling of all illegal political advertising structures, with offenders facing applicable legal sanctions.
Registered advertising agencies were also directed to settle all outstanding statutory fees immediately to avoid suspension of approvals and invalidation of displayed content.
The government said the directive is aimed at ensuring public safety, urban aesthetics and environmental orderliness, while supporting lawful political communication across Ondo State.
