…As Cleric Urges Christians on Good Legacies
The President of the Senate, Dr Godswill Obot Akpabio; Governor Umo Bassey Eno of Akwa Ibom State; as well as other senators and top public functionaries, were among those who paid glowing tributes to the departed mother of Rt Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, during her funeral ceremony on Saturday.
In a display of respect and admiration, the top government officials and political figures from Akwa Ibom State and beyond, gathered to bid farewell to Deaconess Grace Sunday Eyiboh, the mother of Eseme Eyiboh, who is the spokesperson of the Senate President.
Speaking at the funeral ground at Secondary School Akpa Utong, Senator Akpabio said Eyiboh’s mother was “a woman of virtue and compassion.”
Senator Akpabio who was represented by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, said Deaconess Eyiboh long live was marked by great legacies of honour, kindness and community service.
He said, “Although she enjoyed longevity that verged towards 90, the loss of such a caring mother precipitates grave emotions, especially when the memories of her sacrificial love and the bond you shared are contextualized.”
Adaramodu highlighted Deaconess Eyiboh’s entrepreneurial skills and business acumen, which he said she used to support her husband in training their children.
“The result in strides you have all made point to your sterling upbringing by your mother. As it is often said, it is what you put in today’s child that you have in tomorrow’s man,” he said.
The Senate President urged Eseme Eyiboh and his siblings to emulate the good legacies of their late mother.
On his part, Governor Umo Eno who earlier visited the mourning house to console the family, extolled the endearing character of Mmaette, saying her transition to glory would be missed by those whose lives she touched.
Equally represented at the event by his Political Adviser, Godwin Ntukudeh, Gov Umo Eno described her as a “resourceful and virtuous woman who left great legacies for her children and community.”
Eno noted that Akwa Ibom State would greatly miss the deceased, who had nurtured young women in tailoring to make them self-reliant.
Similarly, the Wife of the Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio and Senator Ekong Sampson took their turns to pay glowing tributes to the departed matriarch of The House of Eyiboh, encouraging the family to be consoled that Mmaette lived a fruitful and rewarding life.
While preaching on the topic, “Building Your Legacy”, the General Superintendent and Chairman of Conference of Qua Iboe Church Nigeria, Revd. Ekpedeme M. Effanga, said legacies were anything that people could be remembered for.
Reading from both 2Kgs 20:1-19 and Lk 19:11-27, Revd Effanga who said legacies could be positive or negative, explained that greed, insecurity, negative competition, uncivilization, unpatriotic spirit, lack of fear of God and lack of love for humanity, were reasons people failed to leave lasting legacies.
He encouraged privileged and all manners of men to do their best in leaving lasting legacies wherever they find themselves, so that God will reward them according.
