The Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State on Saturday witnessed a significant political development as critical stakeholders publicly declared their support for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The endorsement took place during the inauguration of the ward coordinators of the “Tomorrow Is Here Movement” at Ugwuoye Primary School Field, Nsukka.
The event drew a large turnout of political leaders, party faithful, community stakeholders, and supporters from across the local government.
The gathering has been described as a convergence of the “who is who” in Nsukka politics, united in their resolve to back the governor’s second-term bid.
The inauguration ceremony was convened to formally empower ward coordinators of the “Tomorrow Is Here Movement” to mobilize support at the grassroots.
The President of the movement, Hon. Tony Okwudili Okonkwo, led the charge in promoting the message of good governance and highlighting the developmental strides recorded under Governor Mbah’s administration.
Traditional rulers from various communities in Nsukka LGA, were present to lend their royal endorsement for the governor at the occasion.
The Founder and Spiritual Director of Okunaerere Adoration Ministry, Prof. Barr. Fr. Obayi, kick-started the event .with prayer for unity, peace, and sustained development of Enough State.
Also present at the event were Former Nsukka Local Government Chairmen, including Hon. Tony Ugwu (Odera) and Hon. Walter Ozioko, alongside other prominent political actors.
Their presence underscored a broad-based consensus within the local government in support of the governor’s second term bid.
In his welcome address, the Nsukka Local Government Coordinator of the movement, Hon. Ozo, Ugwuja Cyril Chika, commended Governor Mbah for executing numerous projects within a short period in office.
He stated that the administration’s achievements had simplified the task of mobilizing support for his 2027 re-election bid.
A former member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Emma Ugwuerua, mounted the stage to lend his voice, urging the “Tomorrow Is Here Movement” to champion the governor’s re-election campaign.
He emphasised unity and strategic grassroots engagement as key to consolidating the gains recorded so far.
Also speaking, the APC Zonal Woman Leader, Hon. Ngozi Ezeja, also addressed the gathering.
She recounted a recent engagement with women in Nsukka, where she clarified concerns regarding the governor’s political direction.
According to her, the administration’s achievements have made grassroots mobilization seamless, as there are tangible projects to showcase.
Two serving members of the Enugu State House of Assembly from Nsukka, Hon. Pius Ezugwu and Hon. Malachy Onyechi, reaffirmed their loyalty to the governor.
Hon. Ezugwu stated that since his election in 2023, he has regarded Governor Mbah as a political mentor and pledged to ensure overwhelming support for the APC in 2027.
The Executive Chairman of Nsukka Local Government, Hon. Engr. Jude Asogwa, described the governor as a pillar of good governance and a master strategist.
He declared that there would be “no vacancy in the Lion Building” in 2027, stressing that political activities in Nsukka would focus on securing the governor’s return.
The Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly also addressed the crowd, outlining key achievements of the administration, particularly in the education sector.
He highlighted the Smart School initiative, noting that it provided free education, free uniforms, and one meal daily for the pupils, thereby positioning children in the state for global competitiveness.
He further emphasised the responsibilities of parents and ward leaders in ensuring the success of the Smart Schools programme.
According to him, the initiative reflected the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and equal opportunity for all children, regardless of background.
In his address, Hon. Tony Okwudili Okonkwo delivered a detailed presentation on the governor’s projects across sectors.
Speaking in a calm and deliberate tone, he underscored the importance of sustained support, urging attendees to continue mobilizing at the grassroots and to put the governor in their prayers.
Following his speech, Hon. Okonkwo formally inaugurated the ward coordinators and the students wing of tomorrow is here movement .
He charged them to return to their respective wards to educate residents on the administration’s achievements and the need for continuity in 2027.
According to the Director of ICT of the Tomorrow Is Here Movement, Hon. Kingsley Ochinanwata, the event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Hon. Cletus Akalusi, Hon. Obiajulu Princess Ugwu, Hon. Osita Aji, Chief Hon. Vitalis Okonkwo (oil money), Chief Mrs. Nkiru Ugwuagu (Onwa Ezeagu).
Others include, Hon. Mrs. Joy Odike (CommissionerCivilserviceCommission), Chief Chirote Odoh (MessiahnaNsukka), Eddy Ajibo, Ossy Aji, Hon. Ishiwu Clinton, Dr. Ikechukwu Onugwu, Chief IkeAchalla, Bar Seth Nwokolo, Bar Brendan Odo, Chief Charles Ezenta, Hon. Theo Chukwu, Hon. Michael Odo, Hon. Tony Ugwuja, Hon.
