NBA protest murder of LP candidate in Enugu

Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Enugu on Thursday bycotted court seating in protest of gruesome murder of Mr Oyibo Chukwu, Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Enugu East.
Rhe NBA chairman CNN Nwagbara disclosed this to Journalists and urged political parties to respect the peace accord signed by their actors for the election.
The LP candidate was murdered on Wednesday by unknown men at Eke-Otu Amechi-Awkunanaw Enugu, and were set ablaze in his vehicle by the assailants.
Nwagbara said, that court did not seat today because, the lawyers, the Bar and the branch were aggrieved by the gruesome murder of a prominent member of the association.
“Chukwu was a prominent member of NBA Enugu branch before he went to Oji River branch and became their chairman .
“Today, we woke up with the sad news of his murder and the circumstances or reason for his death are yet to be unrevealed.
“Because of that surprise and bitterness in our heart, the court and the lawyers decided that the court will not seat,”he said.
Nwagbara said that they used the bycoot as a mark of respect and also opportunity to register thier protest in regards to the insecurity in Enugu.
“NBA is using this opportunity to call on the goverment and security agencies to raise up to the occasion as we cannot continue like this.
“We have duty to excercise our franchise, to vote and be voted for and if we are stopped from coming to vote, that mean our franchise right had been taken from us.
“For me, I am not of the opinion that the death was politically motivated rather, of the view that the so called unknown gunmen are getting emboldened” he said.
“We gave security agencies in the state 48 hours to fish out the perpetrators or we the lawyer will take further drastic action.
He said that the unknown gunmen needed to be seriously challenged, and there should be a statement from the government of Enugu State.
“The state government should condemn or warn the unknown gunmen or rise against them to put an end to all this menace,”Nwagbara said.
