
Dr Iyela Ajayi, The Executive Secretary,National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC)plans to establish its regional office in Anambra.
Ajayi said during an advocate visit of the commission team on Anambra Deputy Governor, Dr Onyeka Ibezim.
Mrs Chioma Nwamah, the Media Aide to Anambra Deputy Governor, Ibezim ,said in a statement made avaliable to journalists in Awka on Thursday.
He said that the commission visited the state to solicit for Anambra government approval for the commission to establish its regional office in the state.
Ajayi also noted that the commission and the state government needs to synergies to benefits the two bodies in development of senoir secondary education in the state.
” The honourable minister of education has given the body the approval to open the regional office in Anambra.
He said that ” The commission will soon commence the upgrading of infrastructures in some selected public senior secondary schools in the country of which Anambra State would be a beneficiary of such program.
Ajayi congratulated Anambra Governor,Prof.Charles Soludo for his laudable achievements in the educational sector of the state within the space of two years in office.
Ibezim,who received the commission’s team on behalf of the governor, in his response assured the team of state government’s commitment to uplifting the standard of education in the state.
He informed the team of the free basic education already in progress in the state and noted that the soludo-led administration prides in educational growth and development to place her students high in international and national academic competitions.
Ibezim said that the recruitment of five thousand teachers in the state,and provision of grants to the public, private and mission schools in the state is a proof the government willingness to make education affordable to the poor and rich children.
He commended the team over their choice of Anambra State as the place for the establishment of the zonal office for the South Eastern region and assured government acceptance.
The statement noted that the Chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC)in Anambra, Prof. Nkechi Ikediukwu expressed delight over the commission’s choice.
Mr Enerst Chukwuka, member of PPSSC for Nnewi zone stated the importance of the visit by the commission to the state.
Chukwuka commended the state government for their quick response to the needs of the commission in the state.
He urged the NSSEC to always bring into the state all educational benefits due to them and promise a robust relationship.
” We promise never to relent in upholding what the commission stands for knowing the importance of offering quality education to the students,” Chukwuka said.
“Mr. Enerst Ezeajughi, Anambra chief of staff to the governor, Mr. Muhammed Salihu, Head senior secondary department of NSSEC were amongst those present during the visit.
The statements revealed that the minister’s approval for the establishment of the zonal office in Anambra was handed over to the state government.
