The supreme court in a unanimous decision on firday lifted the ban on the use of old notes N200,N500 and N1000 banker notes as legal tender in Nigeria.
The apex court, in a decision by a seven member panel of Justice held that the old bank notes should remain valid legal tender until Dec 31. And the old notes should be used alongside with the redesign currency. i.e the new once.
In the lead judgement that was delivered by justice Emmanuel Agim, The supreme court accuesd the federal government of disobeying it interm order that hailted to the full implementation of the new monterey policy.
Specifically, it faulted the federal government for introducing the policy, without due consultation with the leed council of state, the federal executive council, the civil society and other relevant stakeholders.
