
The Executive Chairman of Udenu local government council of Enugu State, Aka Eze Aka has been commended for his people-oriented projects in the area.
The commendation was made by the Nsukka Journalists Forum, a Non-Governmental organisation, led by it’s Chairman, Mr Benson Ezugwu when he led members of the Executive Committee of the forum on a courtesy visit to the chairman.
The forum praised the chairman for initiating various developmental projects including rural roads, boreholes, expansion of Obollo Afor market, creation of foodstuff market and so on.
The forum’s chairman said they were in the council to congratulate Aka on his victory at the polls and to form a viable partnership to move the council forward.
“We are here, first to congratulate you on your victory; also to forge a strong partnership with you; and to see some of the people-oriented projects that you have embarked on for the benefit of the people, ” Ezugwu said.
Responding, the chairman, who is also a member of the NJF thanked the forum for finding time to come and visit him and encourage him to work for the people.
Aka said that the visit would encourage and further spur his administration to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Udenu.
He said it was a great opportunity working with Governor Peter Mbah and following his footsteps to ensuring that development spreads across all the political wards in Udenu local goveernment area.
He outlined some ongoing and completed projects, which his administration had undertaken since assumption of office in September last year.
Some of the projects includes an ICT Hub, currently undergoing comprehensive renovation.
He said that the hub was designed to be a center for digital skill acquisition, with the capacity to train over 50 IT-compliant and tech-skilled youths annually.
He said: “This ICT hub is not just a building; it’s a future-forward investment in our youth.
“We are equipping them with digital tools and skills that will make them globally competitive. “
The chairman said that, so far, no fewer than four roads reconstruction projects were currently ongoing across different parts of the local government area as part of efforts to open up the rural communities.
“These projects were very critical to improving mobility, stimulating local economies, and opening up rural communities to greater opportunities, ” Aka said.
The Udenu boss reiterated his desire to ensuring zero Open Defecation (ODF) throughout the the LGA.
He said that the enforcement of the ban on open defecation, which aligns with a by-law passed by the Udenu Legislative Council, would soon be fully operational in the area.
According to him, the enforcement of the law on open defecation would begin in July this year to ensure that all homes and public spaces within Udenu were equipped with functional toilets and urinal facilities, while the construction of public toilets and bathing facilities have begun in strategic areas.
“Obollo Afor as you know is a transit area, a gateway, where travellers from the North to the South stop to rest, refuel and eat before continuing their journey..
“It is fair that we have public facilities where people can conveniently go to toilet, take their bath if they want, refresh and continue with their journey.
“This initiative is about protecting public health, promoting human dignity, and achieving a clean environment.
“We are serious about eradicating open defecation, and enforcement will begin soon,” he said.
He further said that his administration has begun the construction of boreholes starting from the council headquarters premises which has been completed and currently in use with surrounding residents benefiting.
“We are in a pilot stage and once we get it right at thus stage, we extend it to all political wards, ” he said.
Aka, known for his humility and simplicity, assured the forum that his administration was committed to transparency, accountability, and meaningful stakeholder engagement.
