
Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, has called for abrogation of obnoxious laws against women in the state.
Udeze while calling for the abrogation of all obnoxious laws and harmful practices against women, urged government at different levels to give women a chance to excel in their endeavours by empowering them politically and economically.
The speaker call was contained in his message to mark the International Women’s Day,which was made avaliable to journalists on Friday in Awka by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Emma Madu.
He called on various Legislative Institutions in the country to accord women their rightfully positions with maximum security through legislation.
Udeze described women as veritable instruments for national development and societal reformation.
He enjoined them to uphold those attributes that portray them as virtuous women and shun acts capable of debasing their status.
Udeze extolled the contributions of many notable women in Nigeria to the growth and development of the country, describing them as virtuous women.
He commended the wife of the State Governor,Dr.Nonye Soludo, for her contributions towards the upliftment of the living condition of the citizenry through her Pet Project”Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo”,
“Her passion for a healthy living has continued to benefit Anambra residents immensely especially women, children and other vulnerable persons in the state,”he said.
The that theme 2024 International women’s day is ” Invest in Women:Accelerate Progress.
reports that the United Nations has designated the year 2024’s theme as ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ with a focus on addressing economic disempowerment, while the campaign theme for this year is ‘Inspire Inclusion:
Reports that women’s Day was a result of several socialist movements which requested voting rights for women and better working conditions.
March 8,1975 was marked as Women’s Day by the United Nations and officially recognised as such in 1978.
