A former leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikechikwu Ezeugwu, has announced his intention to contest for House of Representatives seat for Udenu/Igboeze North Federal Constituency of Enugu State.
Ezeugwu, who is from Udunedem Ward in Udenu Local Government Area, announced this at the weekend when he formerly received his membership card as member of African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The three-term member of the Enugu State house of assembly, was issued an ADC memberships card from the ward chairman, Hon. Osmond Ugwu in the presence of thousands of his supporters, party stakeholders, and political heavyweights both within abd outside the ward.
Addressing the massive and enthusiastic supporters, Dr Ezeugwu urged the people of the constituency to take ownership of the political process by registering with the ADC.
He emphasized that the registration exercise was completely free, as stakeholders had already paid for the membership cards to encourage widespread participation.
According to him, the time had come for the people of Udenu and Igboeze North to reclaim their political destiny and elect representatives who truly understand the challenges of the grassroots.
Ezeugwu, who is also the Founder/CEO of Ikechukwu Ezeugwu Foundation, decried the continued control of political structures by a few powerful actors, which has weakened the legislature, an institution he described as the true symbol of democracy.
He maintained that unless power is returned to the grassroots and the political process becomes genuinely people-driven, Nigeria’s democracy would continue to struggle to deliver meaningful development.
The event attracted a strong array of respected political figures, traditional leaders, professionals, and party chieftains, underscoring the growing political momentum around the ADC in the constituency.
Among notable personalities present were Gen. Chris Eze (Rtd), Chief Eze Benjamin, Chief Frank Omeje (popularly known as Okenwa), Barr. Emeka Eze, Engr. Chris Ugwu (Doncris Udenu), Engr. Ken Nnadi, and Odo Linus (aka Lona).
Also present at the gathering were the ADC Chairman in Udenu, Hon. Ngwu Emmanuel, and the ADC Women Leader, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Onah, who both reaffirmed the party’s readiness to build a formidable grassroots structure capable of delivering victory in future elections.
