The Vice Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Professor Aloysius- Michaels Okolie has expressed appreciation to the Visitor of the university, Governor Peter Mbah for the pproval of N1.4 Billion for perimeter fencing.
Okolie said this while briefing newsmen ahead of the 21st Convocation ceremony billed for Saturday 22 November 2025 at the main campus Agbani, Nkanu West local government area, Enugu State.
He said: “It is heart-warming to inform us at this juncture, that the Visitor and Executive Governor of the state has approved the fencing of the university covering 15.67 km perimeter.
“Through the instrumentality of the State Executive Council, over N1.4 Billion only has been approved for the project.
“We appreciate and profusely thank His Excellency for this great, fundamental and far-reaching intervention.”
He also acknowledged the other interventions by the governor aimed at repositioning the university for greater future.
In a related development, the vice chancellor also disclosed that the institution would award Honorary Doctorate degrees to three “national personalities” for their remarkable achievements in the transmutation of the country.
The honoraries include, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable, Abbas Tejudeen; Senator Osita Ngwu, Senate Chief Whip and Chief Paulinus Ozonnagbo, Chief Executive Officer, Polyester Electronics, during her 21st Convocation Ceremony on Saturday.
He said: “As part of the tradition the Visitor, Council and Senate have approved the award of Honorary Doctoral Degree (Honoraris Causa) to three distinguished national and global personalities
“Representative. Abbas Tejudeen, Speaker House of Representatives (Honorary Doctorate Award, for Legislative Practice); Chief Paulinus Ozonnagbo, CEO Polyester Electronics (Honorary Doctorate award for Business Administration).
“The third person is Sen. Osita Ngwu, (Enugu West), Senate Minority Whip, (Honorary Doctorate award for Governance and Public Policy). “
The vice-chancellor said further that the 2025 convocation, which was for graduands of 2023/24 session had a total of 7,991.
He said that the graduands comprised, First degree, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and Doctorate awardees, who have been found worthy by the institution.
According to him, 6,625 will be awarded First degrees; 212 will receive Postgraduate diploma award; 720 will receive Master degree awards; 434 will be awarded Ph.Ds.
Okolie disclosed that 14 graduands made first class (honors) degree from different faculties; 1, 646 had Second Class (upper division), 4619 Second Class (lower division); while 113 graduated with Third Class.
He said that the 2025 convocation was part of his administration’s policy to hold regular convocations annually, and urged the leadership coming after him to continue in that direction.
According to him, the 21st convocation ceremony slated for Saturday would be the fourth consecutive convocation ceremony since his assumption of office in April 2022.
“Recall that on assumption of office, we had affirmed, among other things, to restore the tradition of organizing annual convocation ceremonies for the university.
“To the Glory of God, we have kept faith in this commitment and it is our desire to see through our last ESUT convocation in November 2026, ‘ he said.
