Dear fellow countrymen and good people of Enugu state, the beauty of democracy is that each of us is allowed to make a stand or bare our mind in times of differences and adversities. Democracy allows the freedom of choice from available alternatives. The people of Nkanu East have come out boldly with their choice. And the good news? We have arrived at a consensus candidate for 2023.
Our choice is fundamentally predicated on the fact that our country—Nigeria—including Enugu state is entering yet another historic year where history of who takes over the mantle of leadership of the country is made. Usually, the ordinary man on the streets of Abuja, Ikeja, Independence Layout, Asata, Opi, Nsukka, Nara, Neke, Enuogu-Nkerefi, Udi, etcetera, would call it an election year. Elections are definitely going to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission for different positions and seats including that of the president, governor, national assembly, house of assembly.
Arising from this, political gladiators are taking strategic positions. Choices are being made. Alliances are being forged. New friends and old allies are coming together. Certainly, new foes are also springing up. Battle lines are being drawn. Open and secret declarations are finding their way into the political space. The fever of the elections is getting heightened. Interesting days ahead.
Nkanu East local government area is not left out of the permutation. Choices have been made, and the majority of the people of Nkanu East have taken a position; we have got our consensus candidate, and our Plan B is intact. This isn’t anytime for political timorousness. Nkanu East people have spoken and we are taking our message to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, loud and clear. We are presenting our consensus candidate to the Governor, and we have no doubt that, at the fullness of time, equity, justice and fairness will prevail.
In theatrical formation, there are usually harmonized but different plans usually referred to as, “Plans A, B, C” etc, adopted before the frontline and these plans are either concurrently or consecutively manifested especially when there’s a flop along the sequence of execution. This might be the reason pressures have been mounting on Nkanu East people to draw their alternative plans. The fact is that, our plans have already been drawn and we are confident that they will work for us to the glory of God.
For those mounting pressure on the people of Nkanu East to start making political declarations against 2023 general elections, or to present their consensus candidate, let me note this in an unambiguous term; Nkanu East is not in a hurry. However, we’ve made up our mind on who our consensus candidate is going to be and in the course of this work, I’m going to drop the bombshell. Let it be noted that our interest is not threatened by those making declarations even against the general tide and public feeling. But we are in a democracy and we appreciate the democratic tenets of such declarations. Anybody can declare for anything, but let it be known that the people of Nkanu East have spoken with one voice on where we are and who our consensus candidate is.
Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve the singular honour and privilege to present to you; a man of credibility; a man of the people; a man of the moment; a man after God’s own heart; a man who has not and who will never disappoint the people of Nkanu East in particular and Enugu state in general; a man known for competence, quality leadership and good governance; Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi! Gburugburu! The people of Nkanu East have always believed in him and have always trusted in his leadership capacity to give the people of Enugu state another doyen of democracy. We can never outshine our master. Governor Ugwuanyi is the master.
Our sole candidate for the job is the political chess boss. The people of Nkanu East have adopted Governor Ugwuanyi as our sole candidate and we shall follow him whenever he tells us who to follow from Nkanu East. He never disappoints and we believe he knows the best hand from the local government area to take after him. The people of Nkanu East have resolved to follow the governor, in sun and in rain. We shall swim with him, and victory will be ours.
Finally, our Plans B, C, D and other plans are summed up in Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as our Godsend Governor who’s going to wipe the tears of the people of Nkanu East. He is our comforter. Our only hope. Our joy. Our Boss. Our father. Hence, Nkanu East’s Plan A is Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Nkanu East Plan B is Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Nkanu East Plan C is Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Nkanu East Plan Z is Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. The awesome Governor of Abraham, Elijah and David has given us the right plans and direction to go, and that is in Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi we stand. Governor Ugwuanyi is the rock on which the people of Nkanu East stand. At the fullness of time, God will use Governor Ugwuanyi to give the people of Nkanu East the blazing hope that never fades.
