Edeoga promises to reduce youth unemployment through rural electrification
Ben Ezechime, Enugu
The Governorship candidate of Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State, Mr Chijioke Edeoga has promised to reduce youth unemployment through massive rural Electrification in parts of the state.
Edeoga said this on Monday while featuring in a local Radio station, Owelle 99.5 FM Enuhi.
He said that the only thing that could reduce or eradicate youth unemployment in the state was aggressive rural Electrification project.
“Many rural areas in Enugu State are not connected to electricity and even those connected are not having regular power supply which hampers capacity to improve their economic power.
“If elected governor on March 11, I will embark on mass electrification of the rural communities and also ensure that everything is done to improve power supply accross the state, ” he said.
The LP candidate said with improved power supply many youths will be able to engage in jobs that require power supply.
According to him: “Welders, Barbers, Hairdressers, Electricians, businesses that require use of refrigerators and so on will blossom.
“Industrialists can then go down to the rural areas to set up industries and engage the youths for production.”
Edeoga said also that he would revive moribund industries across the state to create employment and increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
“My administration will engage power generation companies who are willing to provide regular power supply across the state to enable a turn around of ailing industries.
“Many industries will be resucitated and many youths will be gainfully employed, ” he said.
Edeoga said that he planned to turn Enugu into an industrial hub as it used to be in the 80’s.
It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed Saturday, March 11, for the Governorshp and State Houses of Assembly Elections.
