A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr Michael Agbai, has called on parents to desist from patronizing miracle centres which act he said destroys educational values.
Agbai gave the advise on Saturday while visiting St Martin Catholic Church, Acha, Okigwe Diocese in Abia for the funeral service of Chief Ukachi Imo of Amahia, Acha in Isiukwuato LGA of Abia.
Agbai who is a serving priest at CKC Umunchi, Isiala Mbano, LGA, gave the advise during his homily at the funeral service.
He praised the deceased for being a renowned community leader in Amahia Acha community and a good representative of the church in the diocese.
Agbai said the quality representation which the late community leader gave Imo people and the diocese would be missed.
He said that it would be very difficult to see someone who can fit into her shoes in quality representation.
“Most members do not fit into the activities of the church because they lack the ability to write and to speak well in public like Imo.
“Most young people these days pass their external examination through miracle centres and such persons cannot write well or speak at public functions.
“Development of education is a serious business and that is the reason all miracle centres need to be closed down”, he said.
Agbai called on relevant government agencies in the education sector to look into the challenges caused by miracle centres in the nation.
He further called on them to address such challenges strictly to improve the nation’s education standards.
The Catholic Bishop of Okigwe Diocese, Most Rev. Solomon Amatu charged late Imo’s family to uphold their mother’s legacy.
Amatu said that George and Mary Imo’s family is a prominent one in the Diocese and advised their children to uphold their noble family history.
Mrs Stellamaris Okoye, the daughter of the deceased described her late mother as a brilliant and creative woman who imparted great knowledge in her children.
She promised as an educationist to advance her mother’s legacy through promoting quality education in the community.
Mrs Uju Ekwoanya, a co wife to Stellamaris Okoye urged her and her family to be consoled by the service-oriented life their parents lived.
Mr Innocent Okoye who led the Okoye family for condolence on behalf of his younger brother Tochukwu, their direct in-law thanked them for their hospitality.
He described Imo’s family as a complete Christian home.
Okoye said that Imo’s services would be greatly missed and advised her children to sustain their family’s legacy.
reports that Imo died on March 1 at the age of 84 years after a brief illness.
