The lawmaker representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rt. Hon. Pat Asadu has disclosed that the party gave him the platform that made him who he is today, insisting that being a fourth term lawmaker in the Green Chamber was a privilege which could not have been possible without the PDP.
The four term lawmaker who said this on Sunday at Ibagwa-Aka, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, at a well-attended solidarity rally he organised in honour of the PDP leadership, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, PDP governorship candidate, and other candidates from the constituency, boldly declared that he has always been a huge beneficiary of the PDP, and would commit whatever resources within his disposal to ensure the victory of the party, even as he added that he would give instruction to retrieve and repaint PDP offices already taken over by some minor political parties in the area.
Appreciating the opportunities afforded him by the PDP to climb the zenith of his political career, Asadu said: “I have every reason to thank God for today. One, because my friend; my ally; my neighbour, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Governor of Enugu State, is with us. He has his own meeting somewhere but he insisted on coming here, learning what we are doing before going.
“I’m here again to thank God because Peter Ndubuishi Mbah is the next Governor of Enugu State. This is going to be a contested race. Well, there are people who said they’re running for election; I can volunteer to be talking to them. A lot will drop even before the election or they’ve lost. They’ll fail.”
The ranking lawmaker who further said he was a product of the PDP, the party having been good to him, promised that it’s time to pay back the party and its candidates with all the support and mobilisation he could offer.
He attributed his almost 16 years at the National Assembly as a privilege offered to him by the leadership of the party, including Governor Ugwuanyi who gave him the fourth term ticket on a platter.
“I’m happy, I’m proud and I have been saying it in Ovoko; I’m now saying it in Igbo-Eze South to thank God for me and to thank you people for the support for all the years in the National Assembly, because it’s not easy to go once. To go twice is a privilege. Third time, you don’t know what to say, and I must confess that fourth time was only possible because Ugwuanyi was governor. fifth time, Ugwuanyi pushed and pushed for it but we decided to leave it for Engr. Vita Abba.
“I am promising you, Your Excellency, if it’s through good works and good governance that someone wins elections, I think you don’t need to campaign. I thank God for your life. I’m committed to PDP, I will vote for PDP from president to councilor, and I will put my money where my mouth is. I’m not one of those who will be afraid of what some gossipers will say.
“I was told there are buildings belonging to us that had been painted with other parties’ logos and colours. I’m assuring you as you’re leaving here, some of the houses are going to be repainted because there are some things the people of Igbo-Eze South have been benefitting immensely from the PDP. We are taking back our party houses. I will make sure they’re painted back to the PDP because PDP has influential people and supporters,” he added.
Reacting to the solidarity rally, Mbah noted that he had a special relationship with the people of Nsukka zone having been bestowed with the sonship of the soil, stressing that he always feel at home whenever he visits Nsukka.
According to him, Asadu had demonstrated that he’s a perfect gentleman, and that the rally had put an end to rumours and speculations about the lawmaker’s position.
“What we are here today to witness is the demonstration of a perfect gentleman. A gentleman is a man who understands and who knows the value of his words. Who knows that his words are his bonds.
“We are here to put an end to the speculations. We have heard the naysayers; we have heard the traitors; we have heard the doubters who conjectured all sorts of things against our Right Honourable (Asadu).
“He is here before all of us to announce that I (Asadu) am very happy and proud to have been a PDP member in the last 23 years and nothing is farther from the truth for anybody to suggest otherwise.
“He has come here openly to say look what have made me who I am, and what I am today is PDP and on no account will I leave the PDP.
“So, we are putting an end to the doubters, we are putting an end to those speculations today,” Mbah noted.
While commending Ugwuanyi for his myriad of good works in the state, the governorship hopeful promised to fast-track and improve on the economy, build new infrastructure that will drive economic growth and create jobs for the youth through his ambitious economic programmes encapsulated in his manifesto.
Acknowledging the organiser of rally, Governor Ugwuanyi prayed for God’s continuous blessing on him, saying he was glad that a day like that came to pass.
He further appreciated the people of the constituency for their support over the years, adding that his administration would be wrapping up on good note
