Ogoja, Feb. 24, 2023 (NAN) Carolyn Williams, Cross River North Senatorial Candidate of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), has promised effective and quality representation as well as people oriented-laws for her constituency.
Williams made the remarks at the end of a three-day campaign and consultative meeting with stakeholders and electorates in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NNPP took its campaign to five local government areas in Cross River ahead of the Senatorial and House of Representatives elections on Saturday.
The three-day campaign and consultative meeting to the five local government areas namely; Ogoja, Obanliku, Obudu, Bekwarra and Yala which began on Wednesday ended on Friday.
The aspiring lawmaker promised that she would represent the constituency effectively by sponsoring people-oriented bills that would have positive impact on her constituency and Nigeria in general.
Williams, who defected from APC to NNPP, said that incumbency factor was inconsequential in Cross River politics.
She however, said if elected as a Senator, her political philosophy would be pegged on the principles of social Justice.
“My take on legislative agenda is to have Social Justice.
“I will ensure Social Justice in three areas—-education, health and water resources.
“I will make sure there is social justice in the distribution of wealth.
“Here in Cross River North, I will make sure there is a powerful Consultative Forum headed by me that will project our interest.
“I will also ensure we get our fair share of democratic dividends from the federal level,” she explained.
She assured that her agenda as a Senator was to ensure social justice for the benefit of all, irrespective of gender or religious affiliations.
She added that she would also focus on women grassroots development programmes/projects.
“The plan is to have the 36 governors’ wives on board in this project because this is about women in politics and power.
“The goal is to help women that are struggling financially. We are going yo create a funding scheme to support aspiring female politicians, just like myself.
“Apart from this, I intend to also reach out to African women in politics all over the world to lauch the ‘Women in Power” programme.
“My mission is not targeted at the big politicians but for those at the grassroots. This is going to help them immensely. It will also teach them how and who to vote and eradicate the issue of vote buying.
“It will also encourage more women participation in politics because if these women know that they are going to receive support from other women, their interest will greatly increase.
“Women at the grassroots will also be sustainably inspired as we intend to support and encourage them in their small businesses,” she said.
Other NNPP candidates present at the campaign/consultative meeting include; Ferdinand Ajijie, the House of Representatives candidate for Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency and Maria Aboshim, the House of Assembly candidate for Ogoja constituency.
