Labour Party Congratulates Lula, Says Otti’s Performance Demonstrates Party’s Commitment to Nigerians
The Labour Party (LP) has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election, describing the development as a demonstration of the confidence of the Brazilian people in social democratic leadership.
The party, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ken Eluma Asogwa, on Friday, said Lula’s victory reflected the shared ideological orientation between Brazil’s Workers’ Party (PT) and the Labour Party.
The party said both political organisations were rooted in social democratic principles and shared a commitment to social justice, economic inclusion and equitable development.
It said Lula’s re-election provided an opportunity for Nigerians to draw lessons from the Brazilian political experience ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Labour Party urged Nigerians to support its candidates across elective positions, saying its administration in Abia State under Gov. Alex Otti had demonstrated its capacity to deliver people-oriented governance.
“Through the transformational leadership being provided in Abia State under Governor Alex Otti, the Labour Party has demonstrated its capacity, commitment and understanding of the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people,” the statement said.
The party maintained that its political philosophy offered Nigeria an alternative governance model focused on the welfare of citizens, social justice, economic inclusion and equitable development.
It expressed the belief that the country would benefit from having the Labour Party provide leadership at all levels of government, including the presidency.
The party further urged Nigerians to remain confident in its vision as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the statement, the Brazilian experience demonstrates the power of citizens to influence the political direction of their country through the ballot.
“The same is possible in Nigeria, because people power is greater than political power,” the party said.
The statement was signed by Asogwa, National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, and dated Oct. 30, 2026.
