THE Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Wednesday, declared that no “foreigner” would succeed him after the completion of his eight years tenure.
Just as he reaffirmed his earlier pronouncement to support the agitation of the people of Ogun West Senatorial District in producing the next governor of the State.
He said this while addressing members of the Ogun West Elders Council and Yewa Think Tank, at his office in Abeokuta that he had never shifted his position on his decision.
He hinted that there are 1,100 indigenes of the State that are qualified to contest for the exalted position, vowing to thwart any effort by an outsider to administer the state with all resources at his disposal.
He promised to support aspirants like Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, Hon Oladipupo Adebutu, Prince Rotimi Paseda, Hon Jimi Lawal and other aspirants who are bonafide indigenes of the State.
Amosun said his decision to make this a reality was a “covenant between me and my God that I will be handing over to a man from Ogun West.”
He added that the other senatorial districts, especially Ogun East have the right to contest in the election, advising them to consult and lobby on the need for them to support their agitation.
“No part of Ogun State should be short-changed in the scheme of things, hence my resolve to hand over to a man from Ogun West in 2019. This is a covenant between me and my God.
“No atounrinwa (foreigner) will rule Ogun State. They will not even come because the state will not be too comfortable for them. We want to resolve this issue of agitation of the people of Ogun West Senatorial District.
“We want to send the right signal that the state will not be ruled by a stranger. A total stranger who is just tracing his root cannot administer the state.
“I am reassuring you that by the benevolence of Almighty God, one of your sons will become the next governor of the State. I have witnessed at close range the havoc wrecked by a “foreigner” who served as a governor in this state, therefore, I will use all resources at my disposal to prevent them from happening.
“It is even insulting to have a non-indigene at the helm of affairs in our state when there are competent and capable true sons and daughters of Ogun State. GNI is a son of the soil. We all know Adebutu, even Paseda. For Jimi Lawal, he is ‘tokeoyabo’ (northerner) and Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, has even played everything in politics in Lagos, so they should give chance to the real Ogun State-based aspirants.”
The chairman of the Elders’ Council, Alhaji Mohammed Olagbaye, said that the Council had been working ceaselessly in the interest of Ogun West Senatorial District in producing the first governor from the district.
He said that the Council had not pronounced any aspirant as a consensus candidate from the zone.
