Calm has returned to Kaduna State after Thursday’s clash between members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and the police.
The Islamic group had staged a protest yesterday (Thursday), demanding the release of their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife who have been in detention since December 2015, following a clash with the Nigerian Army.
The protest which took place along the Ahmadu Bello Way in the state capital, Kaduna, later turned violent shortly after El-Zakzaky and his wife were arraigned at the state high court on the same day.
Some angry members were said to have stabbed a police officer to death.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, Mukhtar Aliyu, confirmed the killing to Channels Television.
As at Friday morning, however, normalcy had returned to the business district in the capital city as traders and others who had closed their shops on Thursday, were open for business.
Security officials have also been positioned at strategic locations and flash points to avert any further breakdown of law and order by the Shiites or other groups.
