I’ll make Enugu sports club best in South East–chairman
The newly inaugurated Chairman of Enugu Sports Club, Mr Victor Atuonwu has said that the club was the best recreational facility in the South East region of Nigeria.
Atuonwu said this in an interview in Enugu.
He said that the sports club which was established in 1929 by the then colonial administration, was meant to cater for the then Eastern region of Nigeria.
“Enugu sports club reprents the entire South East region of Nigeria.
“It’s a place where every South Easterner and Nigerians at large can come and feel at home.
“It is the best recreational facility in the zone, and perhaps the whole of Nigeria, ” he said.
The club chairman, however decried the infrastructural decay in the facility.
He said that his administration planned to work with members, individuals, government and public spirited philanthropists to resucitate the place, especially the aesthetics.
“There are decay in infrastructure as a result of age. The club was founded in 1929; so, most of the infrastructures are already dilapidated.
“My plan is to improve on the infrastructure, to try to make the aesthetics more beautiful, ” he said.
Atuonwu said his administration had begun to woo both the state government and individuals with the view to pursuing his plans for the center.
“We have already approached the state government and some individuals to help us and they are responding.
“The response has been very impressive; for example, our leaking roof the governor has taken it up, ” Atuonwu said.
According to him: “Very soon the swimming pool will come back to life, the tennis court, all recreational facilities at the club will be fully functional.”
He encouraged residents of Enugu and the South East in general as well as lovers of hospitality to take advantage of the club for their regular exercises.

“One of the most interesting thing about Enugu Sports club is interaction.
“The club is like Nigeria where you meet people from all works of life, ” he said.
