The newly inaugurated members of the 10th National Assembly from Enugu North Senatorial District led by Senator Okey Ezea, on Tuesday promised their constituents that they would do everything humanly possible to render quality representation to them.
It will be recalled that members of the 10th National Assembly comprising of 109 Senators and 360 House of Representatives members were inaugurated on Tuesday 13th June, 2023, following their victorious emergence in the 2023 general election.
Speaking at the venue of their joint reception held at Holy Trinity Catholic Event Center Maitama, Abuja, after their inauguration, Senator Okey Ezea, said that he would stop at nothing to ensure that he gives the people of Enugu North Senatorial District a quality leadership at the 10th national assembly.
Ezea who commended the people of Enugu North Senatorial District for finding him and his colleagues of the Labour Party worthy to be massively elected as their national lawmakers, said that they will not disappoint the trust freely reposed on them by the people.
He said that the outcome of his election into the Senate showed that majority of the good people of Enugu North Senatorial District truly wanted him to be their Senator as they pulled over 100, 000 votes for him ahead of his closest rival who pulled less than 50, 000 votes.
Okey Ezea popularly known as Ideke said, “I spent my active age and money fighting the course of Nsukka people, I cannot afford to play with this opportunity reposed on me and I also believe my colleagues have the same thought.
“It is of a truth that Enugu North Senatorial District is lacking a lot in terms of dividends of democracy when compared to other constituencies, but I promise that I will coordinate the best of representation for our people.”
Speaking also, the member representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, Hon. Chidi Obetta, said that his victorious emergence at the election was a reflection of the amount of love the people of his constituency have for him adding that he defeated his closest rival with over 50, 000 votes.
He said that the number of votes he garnered after the election was a fulfilment of the prophecy his wife had that he will be elected as a member of the House of Representatives but certainly not on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The prophecy came in February last year and by that time there was nothing like Labour Party so I began to ask myself what type of prophecy is this? Which party will ever defeat PDP in Enugu State?
Obetta who said that though the prophecy of his wife seemed unrealizable in the eyes of men, the number of votes he later garnered after the election showed that God’s ways is different from that of man.
For this reason, “I will give my best to represent our people. My office will be open 24 hours for ideas and contributions from members of our constituents and well wishers. The voice and problems of our people will be heard and with God on our side, we will succeed as my day in the House of Representatives has started counting.”
In their separate remarks, Rt. Hon. Dennis Agbo and Hon. Stainless Chijioke Nwodo, assured their constituents from Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency and Igbo-Etiti/Uzo Uwani Federal Constituency, that they would reciprocate the gestures of their electorates with a people oriented representation.
While Agbo assured of ensuring that all the wards in his constituency will drink portable water, Nwodo also assured that women would effectively be empowered in his constituency through his representation as they are the nexus of every family adding, “the road that brought me to the national assembly is so narrow and I will serve my constituents with full commitment.”
Earlier in his opening remark, the Enugu State Chairman of Labour Party, Barr. Casmir Agbo, thanked the people of Enugu North Senatorial District and Enugu State at large for their overwhelming support for Labour Party across the State in all the election and promised that they will not fail the good people of the state adding “You rejected PDP for our sake and we can’t take that for granted.”
