The Executive Chairman of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, Hon. Chukwudi Nnadozie has flagged off a free vaccination exercise to sustain a polio free-status in the LGA.
The exercise which is expected to take place in the Local Government area between Aug. 22 and Aug. 27 is targeted at a total of 35,775 children from three months to five years.

The flag off which was held at Adani, Ogboli zone of the LGA, is programmed to be facility-based, Not house-to-house as health workers will be stationed at the primary healthcare centres and other public places where children under five years are found in the council area to administer vaccine on them.
Speaking during the exercise which is powered by UNICEF, WHO and other international bodies, Hon. Nnadozie appealed to parents, mothers and caregivers to take their children under five years old with their health cards to the primary healthcare centres nearest to them in the council area as “all vaccines are free, safe and very effective.’’

“I am appealing to parents, mothers and caregivers to take their children to the nearest health centres close to them for their onward immunization exercise,” the Chairman said.
Other speakers at the event included state health educator, Mr. Fabian Nebo; state immunization officer, Dr. Nsodukwa; state technical facilitator, IYK Nwangwu; PHCC coordinator, among others.
Meanwhile, the vaccine which protects these children from polio-myelitis and other infections which paralyze or kill such infected child, is only expected to take place in Uzo-Uwani LGA of Enugu State.
