Port Harcourt – Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, General Overseer and Founder of the Omega Power Parish (OPM) says the church will soon open an autism and down syndrome school in Abia.
Chinyere made the disclosure in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Kenneth Nwachi, in Port Harcourt on Friday.
He said that only children diagnosed with autism and down syndrome in Abia would get free education in the school.
“This will make it the third free school for autism and down syndrome children established by OPM aside three other free (regular) schools currently operating in the state.
“The first free school for autistic and down syndrome children was established in October 2020 while the second was opened at number 47 Ogbodo Road both in Rivers state.
“No fewer than two buses were bought to pick up the special children to school and also return them after school,” he said.
Chinyere said the addition of a third school for autistic and down syndrome children would make it a total of 28 free schools established and operated by OPM in 12 years.
“It will interest Nigerians to know that autistic and down syndrome school is the most expensively run school in Nigeria and around the world.
“Presently, there are no free autistic and down syndrome in the country except the one built and run by OPM.
“Some of the autistic children in OPM free school have recovered and joined the normal school, to the glory of God,” he added.
Chinyere said the church decided to open the schools to take care of children living with disabilities due to the rejection they face in the society.
He said the pupils were taught by well specially trained teachers while each child was given four sets of school uniforms.
Others are one school bag; sandal, canvas and sets of textbook and other books.
“The school is completely free and is fully funded from the tithes and offerings of worshipers in OPM,” he said.
