Port Harcourt – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) said it has relocated from its former corporate headquarters building located at Aba Road in Port Harcourt.
Dr. Ibitoye Abosede, NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, announced in a statement on Monday that the commission’s Interim Administrator, Effiong Akwa handed over the building to the Rivers Government.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had on March 11 inaugurated the commission’s N16 billion 13-storey headquarters building at Eastern Bypass area of Port Harcourt.
Akwa, who presented the keys of the building to the Rivers Secretary of State Government (SSG), Dr Tammy Danagogo, commended the state government for accommodating the commission for the past 16 years.
“So, we thank Gov. Nyesom Wike for the assistance his administration has given to NDDC, especially in the last two years.
“Also, another evidence of Gov. Wike’s goodwill is the construction of the Eastern Bypass Road linking the new headquarters of the commission.
“It is on record that during his tenure, we have not recorded any kidnapping of our staff as well as not had issues with youths disturbing our contractors,” he said.
The NDDC boss said the Rivers Government would gain from improvements made on its former corporate headquarters, including the installations of four lifts; water tanks and pumps and fire-fighting equipment.
Receiving the building on behalf of the Rivers government, Danagogo thanked NDDC for cooperating with the state and ensuring a peaceful handover of the property.
According to him, the state government would continue to support NDDC, to ensure it delivers its mandate of developing the Niger Delta region.
“Rivers government has always given support to Federal Government agencies in the state, especially under the administration of Gov. Wike.
“So, we are happy that NDDC has been able to maintain a cordial relationship with the state government. I hope that this synergy will continue,” he added. (NAN)
