With the 2023 general election around the corner, the campaign for the presidency is not limited to the shores of Nigeria. It has gone international. This time there have been claims and counterclaims concerning a statement purported to have emanated from the Ghanaian leader, His Excellency, President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Recently, it was reported that President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana allegedly wrote a letter to Alhaji Bola Tinubu asking him to step down for Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi to become Nigeria’s next president in 2023. His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday reacted to alleged reports of him writing to the Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, demanding that he gives the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Mr Peter Obi, the chance to become the President and to seek treatment for his health.
President Akufo-Ado noted that he never wrote such letter to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. He stated that the statement is completely false and mischievous, with no iota of truth whatsoever. He said, “I have written no such letter to the APC leader, and it will not occur to me to do so. Ghana and Nigeria boast of decades of cordial, strong and brotherly relations and I am not going to be the one to interfere in the internal affairs and politics of Nigeria”.
