Abuja, Feb. 18, 2025 (NAN) Dame Julie Donli, OON, the former Director General, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has expressed her deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Dr Edwin Kiagbodo Clark.
This is according to a statement personally signed by Donli, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
NAN reports that Clark’s death was confirmed in a statement by a representative of the family, Prof. C. C. Clark, on Tuesday.
The Pan Niger Delta Forum leader and renowned statesman and advocate for the Niger Delta region died at the age of 97.
Clark’s dedication to justice, equity, and the advancement of the Ijaw people has indeed left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s socio-political landscape as his death continue to draw condolences and encomiums from both home and abroad.
As a former Federal Commissioner for Information and a key figure in the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Clark played a pivotal role in amplifying the voices of the Niger Delta people at both national and global levels.
His contributions to the Kaiama Declaration of 1998 and his relentless pursuit of fairness remain a guiding light for generations to come.
Donli noted that Clark’s passing marked the end of an era, adding however that his legacy would continue to inspire and motivate future generations.
NAN also reports that Dame Donli’s tribute is a testament to the high esteem in which Chief Clark was held, and his impact on Nigeria’s history will not be forgotten.
She also extended her heartfelt condolences to the Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family, the people of Kiagbodo, and those inspired by the late Clark’s remarkable life and leadership.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire the Ijaw nation and beyond.
“In times of grief, it’s comforting to know that the departed has left an indelible mark on the lives of others.
“Chief Dr. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark’s passing is undoubtedly a great loss, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
“As we mourn the loss of this remarkable individual, let’s take a moment to reflect on the impact he had on the lives of those around him.
“May we find solace in the memories we shared with him, and may his legacy continue to guide us towards a brighter future,” she said.(NAN)
