Labour Party vows to stop rigging in Enugu State in 2023
The Chairman of Labour Party (LP) Enugu State chapter, Barrister Casmir Agbo has said that the party will do everything possible to end election rigging in the state in 2023.
Agbo said this during the harmonisation of all Support Groups for Peter Obi and Chijioke Edeoga, Presidential and Governorship candidates respectively.
According to him, the era of ballot box snatching, thuggery and other forms of electoral malpractices in state was over.
“I cannot be chairman of labour party in Enugu State and allow APC or PDP to rig me out; it can’t happen; it is going to be do or die, ” he said.
The chairman charged party members and supporters across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, to be vigilante at all times.
In the same vein, the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga, urged party members to be bold to challenge any opposing party that tries to intimidate them before, during and after the election.
“Do not be intimidated; do not feel inferior or be afraid to confront them if the need arises. You are well protected, just let us know, we will back you with all legal means, ” he said.
Edeoga said that labour party in the state was ready to change the old order and return power back to the people.
He said that with the advent of the social media and digitalisation of the electoral process, it can no longer be business as usual.
The National Vice chairman South east, of the party, Mr Innocent Okeke said the gathering was not a campaign but to harmonize various support groups in the state.
He said that the harmonisation becomes necessary in order to have a common campaign strategy for the election.
“Many of you are working for Peter Obi at the national level but down to the state we have other candidates who also need your support.
,”That is why we are here. You are the structures that we have, so as you work for Obi, you should also work for all other candidates of our party, ” he said.
The event was attended by party members from the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, and other Stakeholders including the Senatorial candidate for Enugu North, Barr. Okey Ezea.
The deputy governorship candidate of the party, Dr John Nwokeabia was also in attendance.
One of the highlights of the event was the introduction and formal recognition of Nigeria’s former Ambassador to India, Retired Major General Chris Eze, who decamped from the All Progressives (APC) to the labour party.
Eze, a political heavy weight from Udenu Local Government Area, recently dumped the ruling party and joined forces with the Obidient Movement.
