Abuja, Oct. 4, 2025 (NAN) The TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club (TYBIGRCC) on Saturday inducted 109 new members into its growing community during a colourful event in Abuja.
The second edition of the induction kitty served not only as a competition but also as a warm welcome for new members and a showcase of the club’s growing influence in Nigeria’s golfing and social circles.
Captain of the club, Maj.-Gen. Samson Jiya, said the event was organised to integrate the new members into TYB’s culture of excellence and community spirit.
“TYB is fast becoming the pride of Nigerian golf. We hosted this kitty to honour and educate our new members,” he told NAN on the sidelines of the event.
He said golf at TYB went beyond sport, serving as a platform for mentorship, discipline and social cohesion.
“Golf is not just a sport here. It is a platform for mentorship, discipline and social cohesion. We teach ethics, etiquette and what it means to be part of this family,” he added.
Jiya noted that with the latest additions, the club now has more than 600 members, with interest continuing to grow nationwide.
“This event is special to us because we are building not just a club, but a community of leaders and gentlemen,” he said.
The day featured several activities, including oath-taking, presentation of induction packages, a clubhouse tour, a cocktail reception and a putting competition coordinated by the club’s resident professional.
A member of the club’s Membership Committee, Francis Okosun, described the induction process as rigorous, noting that only candidates who met TYB’s high standards of conduct and commitment were accepted.
“We want members who will contribute positively, not just to the club but also to society through the values we uphold here,” he said.
Some of the new inductees expressed excitement at joining the TYB community, describing the experience as warm, informative and inspiring.
Retired Maj.-Gen. Godwin Umelo, a veteran golfer, urged the new members to uphold the club’s values of integrity, equality and discipline.
“At TYB, we practise equality. Once on the tee-box, everyone is equal,” he said.
“We expect our members to be ambassadors of TYB and the military. Discipline and decorum are key.”
Vice Captain of the club, Dr Ali Peters, said the growing turnout at TYB events reflected its rising profile in the golfing community.
“We started humbly, but now top players and elite Nigerians are flocking here. This turnout proves that TYB is the place to be,” he said.
In the day’s main competition, Stephen Joseph emerged winner of the 2025 Induction Kitty tournament with a gross score of 65 and 65 net.
Makrop Datu, playing off handicap 20, finished as runner-up with 92 gross and 72 net, while Walter Egemba came third with 94 gross and 77 net.
In the ladies’ category, Sarah Nkwariza topped the inductee leaderboard with 90 gross and 65 net. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
