Abuja, Aug. 4, 2024 (NAN) Igoche Mark, the founder of Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship, was overjoyed on Sunday in Abuja as he congratulated the Nigerian Senior Women’s Basketball team, D’ Tigress, on their historic victory.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the team on Sunday defeated Canada 79-70 in their final group game of the ongoing Paris Olympics, to secure Nigeria’s first-ever Olympic quarterfinal ticket.
Mark told NAN that the victory is a testament to the Nigerian spirit of never giving up.
He also praised the team’s leader, Rena Wakama, and the entire squad for their outstanding performance.
“The team’s determination and resilience are truly inspiring.
“They showed remarkable grit and determination, coming back strong after a tough second quarter to win the game.
“This victory is a demonstration of what can be achieved when we work together towards a common goal,” he said.
He averred that what was even more impressive, was the fact that the team achieved this feat despite facing challenges.
He stressed that the team’s extraordinary display of tenacity and resilience was worthy of commendation and emulation.
“I am very impressed by their performance, especially considering the fact that they are not being properly catered for at the Olympics.
“It’s a shame that they have had to overcome such obstacles, but their success is a true reflection of their strength and character,” he said.
He urged the team to sustain their momentum, adding that what they had achieved was just the beginning of greater things to come.
“I encourage you to keep pushing forward, never resting on your laurels.
“You have made Nigeria proud, and we are all behind you. Go for the podium finish – we believe in you,” he said.
NAN also reports that Mark’s tribute reflects his passion for basketball and his commitment to promoting the sport in Nigeria.
