Adamu said the Ladies Section used the weekly kitty to celebrate women’s achievements and encourage greater participation of women in sports.
She said the celebration reflected the spirit of the 2026 IWD theme, which emphasises generosity, support, and empowerment among women.

“The theme Give to Gain reminds us that when women support one another, we build stronger communities and create opportunities for growth,” she said.
Adamu added that the celebration also recognised the contributions of golf caddies who support players on the course.

“The caddies were not left out. We also decided to give to the female caddies to give them a sense of belonging.
“They need to know that they are loved, appreciated, and valued within the golfing family,” she said.
The Lady Captain expressed appreciation to dignitaries and golfers who attended the event, noting that their presence added colour and significance to the celebration.
Also speaking, Dr Lami Onayi Ahmed, President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), commended the TYB Ladies Section for marking the global event through sport.

Ahmed said golf provides women with opportunities for networking, empowerment, and healthy living.
“Events like this encourage women to support one another while promoting the growth of women’s golf across the country,” she said.
Dame Julie Donli OON, immediate past Lady Captain of IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, praised the TYB Ladies Section for sustaining the tradition of the weekly kitty.
She congratulated women and girls, urging them to remain hopeful and resilient while pursuing opportunities for growth and success.

“I extend my warmest wishes to all women this month. May March 2026 bring fresh opportunities, renewed energy, and countless possibilities for growth and joy,” she said.
Donli urged Nigerians to use the occasion to speak out against gender bias and discrimination in all spheres of society.
“Let us make this year’s Women’s Day remarkable by raising our voices against gender bias, discrimination, and harmful practices affecting women and girls,” she said.
She listed practices such as female genital mutilation, child marriage, age manipulation in sports, and other forms of abuse as issues requiring urgent attention.

“Silence only strengthens injustice. We must confront female genital mutilation, child marriage, and every form of abuse against women and girls,” she said.
The Roost Foundation Executive Chairman also expressed optimism about building a more inclusive and equitable society.

“I am excited about the possibilities of a sexual and gender-bias-free society where women and girls can thrive without fear or limitation,” Donli said.
