NYSC DG Urges Corps Members To Prioritise Safety, Networking
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. O. O. Nafiu, has urged corps members to prioritise personal safety, build meaningful relationships and use social media responsibly.
Nafiu gave the advice while addressing the 2026 Batch C Stream I corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Boro Town, Bayelsa.
He commended the corps members for their cheerful disposition and urged them to take advantage of the orientation course to build lasting relationships across ethnic, cultural and professional boundaries.
The director-general noted that friendships and networks established during national service could become valuable as they advance in their careers and assume positions of responsibility.
He also cautioned the corps members against irresponsible use of social media, urging them to be mindful of their digital footprints and ensure that their online activities reflected positively on themselves and the NYSC.
Nafiu further encouraged them to participate actively in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to acquire practical skills and explore opportunities for self-reliance after their service year.
Earlier, the NYSC Bayelsa Coordinator, Mr Samuel Amaramiro Pepple, welcomed the director-general and described the corps members as disciplined and committed.
Pepple assured Nafiu of adequate security and welfare arrangements at the camp, noting that the facility had round-the-clock security, stable water and electricity supply, and adequate medical services.
The visit featured cultural performances by the NYSC Cultural Troupe.
Nafiu also joined corps members celebrating their birthdays to cut a cake and presented cash gifts to groups at the camp.
