…Highlights Commitment to Quality Education and Entrepreneurship
Maduka University College, the secondary school arm of the proposed Maduka University, on Saturday, July 22, 2023 marked its first anniversary with a grand celebration and Thanksgiving ceremony.

The event which was held at the college’s auditorium in Ekwegbe, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, was attended by education experts, dignitaries, parents, and members of the clergy.
In his address, the visionary founder of Maduka University College, Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi who reiterated the college’s vision and mission, said that they were out, “To provide excellent educational opportunities in the frontiers of knowledge and application of innovative and creative technologies to industry, business, and entrepreneurship that are transformative and responsive to the needs and challenges of local and global society and for the Glory of God.”

Onyishi maintained that so far, the school has continually strived to meet the high standards set by this vision and mission of the school adding, “I use this occasion to advise parents and guardians to prioritize providing quality education for their children, as it is an invaluable legacy that lasts beyond generations.
“You can make sharp money, but it does not last. Real money lasts beyond you. You see, parents have businesses, but their children, after graduation from tertiary institutions, cannot fit into their businesses; therefore, the businesses cannot continue. Our children should be trained in such a way that they can continue where we stopped.”
Dr. Onyishi expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Military, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security measures for providing adequate security to the schools located between Igbo-Etiti and Enugu East Local Government Areas.
He emphasized the significance of security and praised the collaborative efforts with the military and police to ensure the safety of students and staff.
He said, “The military men are working as if this is a military school. They want to be sure that the institution is completely covered in the area of security. It’s costing us a lot of money to provide security, but it’s a major factor. Security is essential; we can’t afford not to spend on security.”
Speaking also, Principal of Maduka University College, Mr. Uche Silas Odirachukwu, recounted the journey that began in 2019 with the mapping and construction of the university college. The institution commenced its first academic session in 2022, admitting its first set of students.
According to Odirachukwu, “the main focus of this event was celebrate college’s achievements and for we to restate our commitment to offering students an education with an entrepreneurial focus. The students of this first entrepreneurial-focused institution are taught with the mindset of being self-employed and business-minded.”
He said that there was indeed a sketch of drama presented by the students during the event that depicted that they were actually being trained to be creative, enterprising, and self-reliant adding that the founder, Dr. Onyishi has noted on numerous occasions that Nigeria needs an educational revolution with entrepreneurial skills and self-reliance at the forefront.
“Thus, at Maduka University College, students are groomed in the right direction from the very beginning. Particularly through various creative and enterprising activities, the college aims to prepare its students to start their own businesses upon graduation rather than simply seeking traditional employment.
“This approach sets Maduka University College apart from conventional schools and fosters an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship.” The Principal explained.
The guest of honor, Professor Uche Eze, who is the immediate-past Enugu State Commissioner for Education, in his remark, commended Dr. Onyishi’s dedication to establishing the institution.
He praised the founder’s investments in education, noting that it is a capital-intensive venture.
Prof. Eze highlighted the uniqueness of Maduka University College and expressed confidence in its potential.
FirstNews reports that the high point of the event was the anniversary celebration concluded with the presentation of awards and gifts to deserving staff and students, acknowledging their contributions to the college’s growth and success.
FirstNews also reports that while Maduka University College celebrates its first anniversary and reflects on a successful year, its parent institution is also gearing up for a new chapter in its journey as Admission into the entrepreneurial-based Maduka University is set to open its doors to its first batch of students in October this year.
