NEPC to sensitize South East women on non-oil export business
Mrs Esther Ikporah, South East Regional Coordinator of Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), says she will continue to sensitize women in the zone to engage in non-oil export business.
She said this on Wednesday at a seminar and symposium organised by the council in Enugu.
She disclosed that, Nigeria exported over 4 million metric tonnes of non-oil products worth $2.593 billion from January to June 2022.
According to her, this represents 62.37 per cent increase from $1.59 billion for the same period in 202, adding that, within the period under review, there was no export rejected.
Ikporah said the theme of the event:”strenghtening the non-oil sector for national economic development” was a follow up to encouraging export4survival initiative of the council.
According to her, it is the vision of the council to make the world a market place for Nigerian non-oil products and services.
“While our mission is to spearhead the diversification of the economy by expanding and improving non-oil export for sustainable and inclusive economic growth, ” she said.
She said the export4survival campaign initiative was necessitated by the covid-19 era where Nigeria went into recession due to the fall in global oil price.
The coordinator said that, Nigeria’s economic can only grow bigger with greater participation of MSMEs in non-oil export products.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Ministry of Commerce, Dr Godwin Anigbo called on the Federal Government to make provisions for stabilisation funds for MSMEs
“We should have stabilisation funds for them to sustain and improve their businesses, ” he said.
He said that every plan at the Federal level should be able to be implementable by the component partners.
The seminar and symposium was a continuation of the NEPC week
Engr. Jani Ibrahim a member of board of NEPC advised the MSMEs in the South East to take advantage of business environment in parts of the region to develop their skills.
He said that Nigetia can take over the African market with due diligence in the area if production, packaging and marketing.
