The Governor of Zamfara,Alhaji Bello Matawalle, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in the northern part of the country to end the current spate of insurgency in the region.
Speaking when he received the Assistant Inspectr-General of Police in charge of Zone 10, Mr Ali Janga, the governor said that the state of emergency would be the best option to secure the lives and property of the people.
He said that the security challenges facing the zone had reached an alarming rate and ought to be tackled with all seriousness.
Matawalle said that the state government recently released N17 million to the security agencies to mobilise their personnel to security-challenged areas in the state.
On the recent abduction of people from some communities in the state, he said that the government was making efforts to secure their release.
Responding, Mr Janga lauded the financial and moral support being extended to the police and other security agents in the state.
He maintained that the police would continue to discharge their constitutional duty of protecting the lives and property of the people.
Janga called for more support and cooperation from the government and the entire people of the state in the fight against banditry. ##
