Akure, Dec. 22, 2025 – Ondo State Government has expressed concern over the proliferation of political billboards and campaign materials across the state, especially in the Southern Senatorial District.
The government said political participation is legitimate but stressed that erecting outdoor campaign materials without approval violates extant signage and advertisement regulations.
It noted that no individual, group, or political organisation is exempt from obtaining prior clearance from the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency, regardless of status or affiliation.
Accordingly, all political actors and organisations responsible for such materials have been directed to engage the agency for approval and regularisation within 42 hours, beginning from Monday, Dec. 22.
A statement by Mr Yomi Oyekan, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Signage and Advertisement, warned that unapproved billboards would be removed and confiscated after the grace period.
The statement also advised registered advertising agencies to settle outstanding statutory fees, warning that default would affect approvals and the validity of displayed materials.
The directive, the government said, is aimed at ensuring environmental orderliness, public safety, urban aesthetics, and preventing visual defacement across the state.
It reaffirmed the government’s commitment to lawful political communication while enforcing equal compliance with signage and advertisement regulations.
