…says Enough is Enough!!!

Akure, Dec. 17, 2025 — The Ondo State Government has ordered the immediate removal of all illegal banners, posters and unapproved advertisements across the state, warning that offenders will face stiff sanctions.
The directive is contained in a statement signed by Yòmí Oyékàn, Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Signage and Advertisement, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Akure.
Oyékàn said the state was “not a dumping ground for illegal advertisements,” stressing that the indiscriminate pasting of posters and banners on walls, fences and buildings amounted to a gross defacement of the environment.
“When building owners and advertisers allow their properties to be plastered with unauthorised materials, they are not only breaking the law but also contributing to urban blight, eroding civic pride, order and dignity,” he said.
The governor’s aide emphasised that no advertisement is permitted anywhere in the state without the express approval of the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OSSAA).
He listed areas such as Akure Mall, Oja Oba, Arakale Market and Alagbaka—including the Bank of Industry building—as locations where the abuse had become rampant.
“Government will no longer look away. Building owners who permit these infractions are partners in the offence and will be treated accordingly,” Oyékàn said.
He added that with immediate effect, all illegal advertisements would be removed without notice, while both advertisers and property owners would be fined and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
According to him, the exercise is aimed at restoring order, protecting the aesthetic appeal of the state and reclaiming public spaces, noting that “the era of indiscriminate advertising is over and compliance is no longer optional.”
