The former Governorship candidate of Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State, in the 2023 general election, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency, House of Representatives seat, winning the party’s primary election by a wide margin.
The result was announced at the collation centre in Enugu East LGA by the returning officer, Barr. Uche Mbaeke.
According to the declaration, Edeoga polled 40,533 votes, to defeat current sitting lawmaker, Prof. Paul Nnamchi, who secured 248 votes.
The outcome sparked immediate celebrations among APC members and supporters present, many of whom described the exercise as peaceful and credible.
In his post election speech, Edeoga who was in the house of representatives between 1999 and 2003, thanked party members for their support and singled out Governor Peter Mbah for praise.
He said the governor’s “transformational leadership style and unwavering commitment to party growth” had set a standard for progress in the state.
According to him, Mbah “remains a true party patriot whose vision continues to inspire confidence across political divides.”
Also speaking, the Minister of Science and Innovation, Barr. Kingsley Udeh, commended the turnout and conduct of the primary.
He called it “democracy in action” and urged members to bring the same energy to the upcoming governorship primary.
Udeh further pushed for unity behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that “our President must be overwhelmingly affirmed during the primaries and returned in 2027,” and that this responsibility rests with every committed party member.
Senator Kelvin Chukwu, representing Enugu East Senatorial District, praised the smooth process and encouraged stakeholders to stay united.
“This primary election has demonstrated that our party is becoming stronger in Enugu State,” he said.
Local government leaders also weighed in. Hon. Obiora Obeagu, Chairman of Isi-Uzo LGA, noted that the large turnout of party members reflected the strength, unity, and readiness of the people.
In the same vein, Pastor Beloved-Dan Anike, Chairman of Enugu East LGA, said the exercise proved that “our grassroots remain the backbone of our party.”
